We invite all who participate in San Francisco’s Euro Gaming League (EGL) to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone! The following outlines our expectations for those participating in our community.
We expect all attendees to abide by this code of conduct in all community venues, whether in-person or online. The following code and its related procedures also applies to unacceptable behavior occurring outside the scope of community activities, particularly if such behavior has the potential to adversely affect the safety and well-being of community members.
This is not a rule book nor exhaustive; rather it serves to distill our common understanding of this community. We expect our members & event attendees to adhere to the following code of conduct both in spirit as well as to the letter.
Our Philosophy
We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, socioeconomic status or religion.
We play board games for fun and seek to provide a safe, comfortable and friendly experience for all, whether experienced gamer or beginner.
We acknowledge that the competitive nature of many games is part of the fun – enjoy your games, but don’t allow your enjoyment to negatively impact someone else 🙂
Examples of such negative impacts may include:
- Overly competitive behavior
- Harsh critique of others’ decisions
- Overly dominating behavior that limits a player’s engagement
Be a Good Sport
Be gracious in losing and winning!
Attendance
If you are vaccinated and haven’t recently been traveling, come join us for an evening of fun games and fab people!
If you have RSVPd but decide not to attend, PLEASE UPDATE your RSVP on meetup by 3pm Monday at the latest! We always have people on the wait-list, so ask you to be considerate by providing sufficient notice to those waiting so they may attend. Frequent Nth-hour cancellations may be grounds for dismissing one from the group.
Please review our RSVP & Attendance policy for more details.
Devices
We encourage people to disengage from their devices while at our event; the focus is on tabletop gaming, not video! If you must be on your device, use headphones! No one wants to hear what you are listening to on your device.
Smoking/Vaping
Do not smoke inside the venue (neither cigarettes, ecigs nor vaporizers). When smoking outside, please do so at least 20 feet away from the entrance.
Hygiene
Yes, proper hygiene is important; poor hygiene can negatively affect the experience of others! Keep yourself clean & tidy.
Clean up your area … trash cans and recycling bins are provided – use them.
Bullying/Language
Hazing, discriminatory or derogatory language, comments or activities will not be tolerated at any level.
Please refrain from using socially inappropriate or bullying language. This includes using words that are racist, sexist, homophobic, overtly sexual in nature, or designed to belittle others. If it might be socially unacceptable to say in front of a family, please don’t say it here.
Photos
Feel free to take photos of any games we play. However, please seek permission before including any individuals in photos or tagging on social media.
Moderation Philosophy
The moderators are volunteers who are primarily here to play board games with fun people in their free time. We aim to develop a community and foster an environment that rarely needs intervention. However, moderators may implement warnings, open dialogue and/or expulsions from the group as required.
Situations requiring immediate moderator intervention
The moderation team is committed to providing a safe, comfortable and beginner-friendly environment. Feel free to approach a moderator if you feel immediate intervention is required in any situation. This includes on behalf of other attendees, but please use appropriate discretion in such cases.
Non-urgent complaints
To avoid confusion, please explicitly state to a moderator that you are making a complaint and you would like action to be taken. With regard to timelines, please keep in mind that moderation is on a volunteer basis and we will resolve issues as we are able.
