Code of Conduct

The following outlines our expectations for all those who participate in our community. We invite all those who participate in San Francisco’s Euro Gaming League (EGL) to help us create safe and positive experiences for everyone!

We expect all community participants to abide by this Code of Conduct in all community venues, both online and in-person. This code of conduct and its related procedures also applies to unacceptable behavior occurring outside the scope of community activities when such behavior has the potential to adversely affect the safety and well-being of community members.

This is not a rule book nor exhaustive, rather it serves to distill our common understanding of this community. We expect it to be followed in spirit, as much as in the letter.

Our Philosophy

We are committed to providing a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ability, ethnicity, socioeconomic status and religion. Please take a moment to review our code of conduct.

We play for fun, not always competition, and aim to provide a safe, comfortable and beginner-friendly experience. We also acknowledge that the competitive nature of many games is part of the fun. Enjoy your games, but don’t allow your enjoyment to negatively impact someone else 🙂

Examples of such behavior include:

  • Overly competitive behavior
  • Harsh critique of others’ decisions
  • Overly dominating behavior that limits a player’s engagement
Be a Good Sport

Be gracious in losing and winning!

Devices

We encourage people disengage from their devices while at our event; the focus is on tabletop gaming, not device 🙂  Also, use headphones, not everyone will want to hear what you are listening to on your personal device.

Smoking/Vaping

Do not smoke inside the shop (this includes eCigs and vaporizers). When smoking outside, please do so at least 20 feet away from the entrance.

Hygiene

Yes, proper hygiene is important; poor hygiene can negatively affect the experience of others! Clean up your area … trash cans and recycling bins are provided. Use them.

Bullying/Language

Hazing, discriminatory or derogatory language, comments or activities will not be tolerated at any level.

Please refrain from using socially inappropriate or bullying language. This includes using words that are racist, sexist, homophobic, overtly sexual in nature, or designed to belittle others. If it would be socially unacceptable to say in front of a family, please don’t say it here.

Photos

Feel free to take photos of any games we play. However, please seek permission before including any individuals in photos or tagging on social media.

Moderation Philosophy

The moderators are volunteers who are primarily here to play board games with fun people in their free time. We aim to develop a community and foster an environment that rarely needs intervention. However, moderators may implement warnings, open dialogue and/or expulsions from the group as required.

Situations requiring immediate moderator intervention

The moderation team is committed to providing a safe, comfortable and beginner-friendly environment. Feel free to approach a moderator if you feel immediate intervention is required in any situation. This includes on behalf of other attendees, but please use appropriate discretion in such cases.

Non-urgent complaints

To avoid confusion, please explicitly state to a moderator that you are making a complaint and you would like action to be taken. With regard to timelines, please keep in mind that moderation is on a volunteer basis and we will resolve issues as we are able.
